What changed in 2026
Signet bought James Allen in 2017 and Blue Nile in 2022, so the two "rivals" have shared an owner for years. On March 19, 2026, alongside its fiscal results, Signet said it would sunset the James Allen website and move complementary styles onto the Blue Nile platform, with the transition expected to complete by the end of its second quarter, roughly August 2026. The James Allen name survives as a proprietary collection of ring styles at Blue Nile, and its 360-degree diamond imaging is being spread across Signet's other sites. For a buyer that means: an old bookmark redirects, existing James Allen orders and warranties are honored by the same parent, and the James Allen "better prices" that older comparison articles cite are no longer a separate store's prices to compare.

Seeing the stone
Both sell diamonds you cannot hold, so the imaging is the product. James Allen built its reputation on a 360-degree video of every diamond with a magnifier that zooms far enough to see inclusions, and Signet is carrying that into Blue Nile, where stone pages already show video for most inventory. Brilliant Earth shows video and, for its own supply chain, a stated origin. What neither video shows is the thing that matters most in a cheap-looking stone: how it performs in the light of a room rather than under a scanner. The workaround is the certificate. Buy only stones graded by GIA or, for lab-grown, GIA or IGI, compare cut grade, fluorescence and the plotted inclusions on the report, and treat two stones with the same report data as the same stone whoever is selling it.
The metal is the same everywhere
